I have been talking to a lot of friends who recently had babies or are about to have a baby and so many of them seem to not be aware of the amazing support of Doulas. I would have paid my Doula beyond a million dollars if I could, however, she really is priceless. I think many couples see a Doula as taking the place of the husband which is so far from the truth. Doulas help bring you and your partner together during birth. How can anyone expect their partner to know what to do at a new birth? That is so much pressure to put on your partner and yourself. A Doula is there for every step of the way and provides you so much love, support, knowledge and strength.
Our wonderful Doula, Linda Goldsmith, was unbelievable. My husband and I are so thankful that she was there for the birth of our daughter. I will not go into long explanations and stories but even if you never thought about a Doula, please take the time to understand what they are and who they are for your birth. You can hire a Doula months before your birth or even last minute!! The cost is often a sliding scale and a very minimal amount for what you get in return.

doulas ARE priceless! in fact, i would say that a doula for a first time mother is a must have. there is just no way to prepare for everything encountered in childbirth without a pro to coach you through it. we definitely felt that our doula helped us to bond together during our labor with lyla. she was truly there to support both of us!
